NYC escooter rollout. NYC hire rates seem to be a lot cheaper than London! Is that a loss leader price or are Londoners being gouged? Maybe London is subsidising NYC?
Also “corrals” (bays) have their own issues.
I have one outside my house and there is significant impact in terms of noise (users at all hours and post midnight servicing), litter (despite nearby street bin), and overflows/lazy parking taking up nearby residents parking bays (equipped with EV lamppost charging) and also a single yellow space good for deliveries/loading and blue badge parking. The overflows happen because the competing companies “stuff” the bay to crowd out competition, no space for in bound users.
My view is 30+% of riders of micromobility are entitled inconsiderate ejits, draining one’s faith in humanity. On one occasion several riders blocked access to my front gate on pavement instead of parking in bay.
From time to time I practice “malicious tidying” of the bay and environs as a coping strategy.
